Die Decke hat circa die Maße 200 x 150cm.

The Tzotzil indigenous group belongs to the Maya tribe of Chiapas, Mexico and have been weaving for centuries. The towns of Chamula, Zinacantan and San Christobal de las Casas are vibrant hotspots of ancient traditions and enchanted magic. In the surrounding villages, Maria and her family use their looms to make these beautiful, handmade wool cushion covers.

Jolom Mayaetik means "Maya Weavers"
and is a nice name for the women who are organizing themselves more and more in Chiapas so that their craftsmanship can survive alongside the cheap copies of China's import giant. A fight that turns out to be difficult, as Maria tells us. The untrained eyes of tourists miss the poor quality of cheap imitations and shopkeepers see less and less value in selling traditional handicrafts. Then Maria suddenly laughs at me and cheerfully says that they will not give up. Because there would be more and more people like us who would look out for something special. That's right, I think, and I'm encouraged to look for other pillowcases made by her in order to be able to offer them here.

The craft

Today, as they have for centuries, the people of Chiapas weave on a backstrap loom. It takes several days of work, time, technique and a lot of love to create one of our pillowcases, which requires ancestral know-how.
All this makes them unique, ethnic pieces.

Thankful
We are incredibly grateful that Maria shared parts of her story with us and that we were able to visit her and her family at work. The Tzotzil of Chiapas are extremely shy and reluctant to be photographed. We were all the more surprised and happy when Maria herself suggested a photo.

With your purchase you not only appreciate and support the work of the Tzotzil women and their unique craftsmanship, you also bring the empowering energy of their culture into your home and thus unite worlds.
